Sentimental Storage Opens in Athens, Ga.

Sentimental Self Storage is now open for business and owners held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday to kick things off at the location at 1560 Dr. Martin Luther King Pkwy in Athens, Ga.

Owners Sherry and Dr. Eric Delay and Tom and Donna Shampine welcomed Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors and other guests to the location that is across from the new Lincoln Heights Elementary building site.

We saw a need for storage,” Tom said. “We wanted to step up and offer our community a good service. We’ve tried to build a facility that is state of the art.”

Eric is a board-certified physician specializing in internal and pediatric medicine and Sherry is a registered nurse and volunteers for Food on Foot and a local parenting group. The Delays’ son Fletcher attends Russellville Elementary School.

Tom is/was retired after working in the food service industry and Donna is a licensed aesthetician at Renu Laser Center and Medi Spa. They have four adult children and four grandchildren.

Eric said it’s been a good challenge to work on a business outside his medical practice. As a doctor, it’s interesting to get out and do something different,” he said. “You can get in a rut doing the same things every day, so getting to do business a little different with a group of people is exciting.”

  • The ownership group worked with Steve Slack of First Bank and Trust to finance the project.
  • The new facility offers many types of storage and RV and boat parking.
  • Storage units range in size from 50 square feet spaces all the way up to 300 square feet.
  • The property is secured with gates, individual locks, security cameras and other features.
  • Units can be rented online 24/7.

The owners are all excited about their new venture and were looking toward to the future when they develop more on the property, as there is room for expansion when the units fill up.

We can add on two or three more phases,” Tom said.
