RV wholesale shipments are projected to climb into the mid-300,000 unit range by year-end 2024 before climbing higher in 2025, according to the June 2024 issue of RV RoadSigns, the quarterly forecast prepared by ITR Economics for the RV Industry Association.
The new forecast projects 2024 RV shipments to range between 329,900 to 359,100 units with a median of 344,000 units. Additional growth is expected through 2025 with wholesale shipments increasing to a range of 374,200 to 408,600 with a median of 391,400 units.
“This new forecast reinforces our cautious optimism that the worst of the impact from interest rate increases are behind us, and that we’ll see a continued rise in shipments through the remainder of this year and into next year,” said RV Industry Association President & CEO Craig Kirby. “Our research also shows that people are making RVing their travel of choice with 45 million Americans planning RV trips this summer.”
RV shipments are used as a predictor for RV sales across the country. Sales of outdoor recreational vehicles soared during the pandemic, but leveled off due to supply-demand issues and high interest rates. The new forecast indicates continued sales growth throughout 2024 and 2025.
For RV storage developers and investors, the prediction points to growing demand for more professionally operated storage facilities across the nation. Research by industry experts such as Yardi and StorTrack reveals the number of RV storage facilities needed to house both RVs and boats has lagged dramatically behind sales of both, despite HOAs cracking down on storing oversized properties within neighborhood jurisdictions.Â
