Founded in 2003 by Robert and Joni Walker, Storage of America specializes in converting underused or empty buildings into climate-controlled self-storage facilities. Recently the Walkers held a grand opening for their newest facility—in Goodman, Mo.
Storage of America has facilities in six states, including Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania. The newest remodel was the former Hunte Corporation building in Goodman.
The grand opening allowed community members to tour the first phase of the renovation plans, featuring approximately 200 indoor, climate-controlled units ranging from 5×5 units to large drive-in, climate-controlled bays that are 18×74, with 16-foot overhead doors, “perfect for contractors or small businesses for $650,” days Joni.
“We have great security with cameras throughout the facility,” she added. “There also is a newly paved, gated area for RV and boat storage in the parking lot. “We had a great turnout Saturday with people coming from Goodman and surrounding communities, and we loved meeting them.”
The event featured free hot dogs, drinks and popcorn along with a face painter and a balloon twister for entertainment.
Several people took tours of the facility and were pleased to see how the conversion turned out.
“Many had worked or had memories of being in the building and were glad to see it repurposed,” said Joni.
Storage of America has approximately 16,000 units throughout the nation comprising nearly 3.5 million square feet.
