Embracing the Truck Parking Challenge: My Journey to the TSN Board and Blog

Toy Storage Nation is delighted to introduce the TSN Truck Parking Blog, created by Andrew Jones, who began his career with a decade in self-storage before discovering this emerging niche within the storage industry. As a truck-parking facility owner-operator and advocate, Andrew kicks off the blog with facts indicating a huge need for nationwide truck-parking storage development. Check back regularly for Andrew’s personal experiences within this unique storage segment, as well as news and feature stories that he will be curating in the coming months. Welcome, Andrew!

By Andrew Jones

I’m incredibly honored to join the Board of Directors at Toy Storage Nation and to launch the TSN Truck Parking Blog. As the co-owner of OTR Truck Parking and Vice President of Embracing the Truck Parking Challenge: My Journey to the TSN Board and BlogProperty Member Optimization at Truck Parking Club, I’ve made it my mission to rethink how we use space to support the folks who keep our country moving—truck drivers.

I started in the storage world 10 years ago with stops at JustStorage, Extra Space Storage and Yardi Systems. Along the way, I realized there was a huge opportunity sitting right in front of us: truck parking. It’s one of the most overlooked, yet most in-demand needs in the logistics industry today.

To put it in perspective: For every 11 trucks on the road, there’s only one legal parking space. Drivers are spending close to an hour a day just looking for a safe place to park. Toy Storage Nation Truck Parking BlogThat’s time lost, fuel wasted and stress added. And when drivers can’t find a spot? They end up parking in unsafe or unauthorized areas. This leads to increased goods costs and cargo theft.

That’s where we come in. Truck parking is more than just solving a problem—it’s a growing real estate asset class. These properties offer strong, reliable cash flow with minimal maintenance, while supporting an industry that’s the backbone of our economy. It’s why I got into this space, and it’s what I love doing every day.

At Toy Storage Nation, I’ll be contributing articles and insights to the website to help operators better understand the opportunity truck parking presents. If you’ve ever thought about how truck parking might fit into your operation—or if you’re just curious—please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to chat, share what I’ve learned or just swap stories.

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome. I’m excited to be part of this community and to help build something meaningful together!

For future reference, I am hard to miss at tradeshows. Just look for the bolo-tie and the cowboy hat! As Johnny Cash would say, I am the “Man in Black.”
