The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board in Arizona voted to recommend the council approve a zoning request and site plan review for an expansion to an RV storage facility at a recent meeting.
The board voted 6-0 with board member Genessee Montes absent on Dec.10 to recommend council approval.
The request was to rezone the area of 8839 E. Main Street on the south side of Main Street and the west side of Loop 202 from General Commercial with a planned area development overlay to GC with a new PAD Overlay, as well as trigger a site plan review and council use permit for a boat and recreational vehicle storage facility, according to board documents.
The request was made by applicant Dane Astle of Edifice Architecture on behalf of site owner Germaine RV LLC.
If approved by the council, the existing RV and storage facility would be expanded to include two RV and boat storage buildings totaling approximately 52,262 square feet in addition to two canopies totaling 6,583 square feet.
Staff planner Kwasi Abebrese explained at a Dec. 10 study session that this expansion is the final phase of a multi-part project.
“This project is the final phase of a three-phase project to create a campus for boat and RV storage under the project site,” Abebrese said. “The application was submitted prior to the adoption of the 2050 Mesa General Plan and was reviewed under the 2040 General Plan.”
The seven-member Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to the City Council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city’s long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years.
