More RV Storage Needed as March Shipments Top 32,000; Motorhomes up 9%

Results for the RV Industry Association’s March 2026 survey of manufacturers found that total RV shipments ended the month with 32,162 units, a (-13.9%) growth rate compared to the 37,348 units shipped in March 2025. For the year, shipments are off (-12.1%) with 86,051 RVs shipped through the first three months compared to 97,848 last year.

Despite the downtick from last year’s numbers, the RV and boat storage industry falls short of meeting demand for storing the existing number of RVs and boats owned throughout the United States.

Current research indicates that two times the current supply of RV/boat storage is needed to meet demand. Approximately 8.1 million U.S. households own an RV (a 62% increase in 20 years) and 12 million own a recreational boat. More than half of homeowners across the country live in HOA neighborhoods restricting storage of large vehicles on the property, forcing them to seek professional storage, but development of such facilities has lagged dramatically behind demand.

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month down (-16.2%) from last March with 28,484 shipments. Motorhomes finished the month up 9.3% compared to the same month last year with 3,678 units.

Park Model RVs finished March up 33.6% compared to the same month last year, with 489 wholesale shipments.

Below you will find charts showing 2025/2026 month over month total wholesale RV and Park Model

shipments. Click here to view the March 2026 shipment numbers published on the RV Industry Association website and click here to view the Shipment Report in PDF format.
