Tips for Making Your RV More Eco-Friendly

Tips for Making Your RV More Eco-Friendly

RVing is an exciting mode of transportation—you have a home on wheels that can take you anywhere. However, even while driving in an RV, it’s still important to be mindful of the environment. Here are tips for making your RV more eco-friendly.

Buy a Smaller RV

The size matters a lot when buying any type of traveling vehicle. From a small camper to a bigger road vehicle, you need to be careful of what you pick because the bigger your automobile is, the more toxic fumes it emits into the air.

If you’re taking a shorter trip or don’t have too many people driving with you, a smaller vehicle works better, as it requires less power to run, and you don’t use a ton of fuel.

Depending on your size, you also need a good battery system, so pair it with an RV battery that lasts a long time, especially in smaller vehicles. The two batteries options are lithium and AGM, but the choice on what to pick is yours.

Use Solar Panels

Solar panels are a lifesaver, especially when needing to save money on electricity—even with a camper, you still pay for electricity. However, electricity won’t be a hassle with solar panels. You reduce the costs of electricity bills with solar panels, and they’re portable.

Whether it’s to power up the fridge or charge a battery, solar panels can better replace traditional electrical wires.

Don’t Overpack

Overpacking is OK sometimes, but it’s better to buy things you need when you get to your destination, such as groceries or pool toys. If you overpack, you cause the RV to use more fuel than it needs, which can cause you to make multiple stops.

While packing your suitcase, pack only things you need, such as clothes and small lunches. Then, when you make it to your destination, you can go out and buy more.

Buy Secondhand

New road vehicles models are great, but they tend to consume more energy and waste more fuel if you don’t know what to buy, especially if you are brand new to RVing. One of the best tips for making your RV more eco-friendly is to shop secondhand.

Here are the items to shop for:

  • Shelving
  • Cushions
  • Appliances
  • RV tools

While out with your RV, make it a habit to practice being environmentally friendly, especially when going from place to place. As a rule of thumb, always make it a routine to leave areas looking better than when you arrived.
