Schneider Caravaning of Germany has launched its newest amphibious vehicle, combining an RV and boat into one sporty, compact design with plenty of creature comforts. Called the Caracat 860, this amphibious caravan allows for camping on both land and water, giving today’s outdoors fanatics the opportunity to possibly have their cake and eat it, too.
The Caracat 860 is manufactured in three different sizes, ranging from 6.6 meters to 8.6 meters. The vehicle is designed to be easily towed by a truck or an SUV, and is equipped with a modest 8hp Torqeedo electric motor for clean, quiet operation on lakes. For those with a need for speed and higher power on the water, the Caracat can be upgraded with more electric or diesel power, up to approximately 100 hp.
The 8.6-meter model comes equipped with a Victron 220-Ah AGM leisure battery, 200-W solar panel, 32-A shore power hookup, Garmin 722 XS GPS/chart plotter, Truma air/water heater and a Domestic air conditioner. It’s decked out with an entertainment system featuring retractable LED smart TV and Bluetooth audio system. Along with a kitchen, toilet and bath, the cozy camper comes with a convertible sofa-sleeper, topped off with a pop-up sleeper roof. The Caracat is manufactured in Turkey with prices starting at the $130,000 mark.
