3-Alarm Fire Destroys Units, Injures One, in Washington

More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at Valley Self Storage in Kent, Wash., impacting more than 30 storage units. According to the Puget Sound Fire Department, one person was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The crew battled the blaze, which was called in as a two-alarm fire but upgraded to a three-alarm fire for over an hour.

Puget Sound Fire Division Chief Pat Pawlak said when the crew arrived, they discovered heavy smoke coming from a storage unit. To limit the horizontal spread of the fire, Pawlak said the crew strip cut the roof, giving the flames nowhere to go.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Valley Self Storage, located at 21218 84th Avenue South in Kent, Wash., is part of the Urban Self Storage Inc. family of self-storage facilities that includes more than 75 properties throughout Washington, Oregon, New Mexico & Arizona. The property features high-tech security, keypad access, drive-up access, push carts, vehicle storage, moving and storing supplies and access to U-Haul truck rentals.
